While New Era Cap Co., Buffalo, N.Y., has been a staple in the MLB for some time, the company is looking to branch out. According to The Buffalo News, New Era announced yesterday it will produce 100,000 NFL hats at its plant in Derby, N.Y.

Two weeks ago, New Era announced its plans to name the Buffalo Bills’ home stadium New Era Field. Both deals will give New Era more exposure to NFL fans.

To meet production demands for the new hats, the company expects to add 17 jobs to the Derby plant by year’s end. Furthermore, the deal solidifies the jobs of the current 250 Derby-based manufacturing employees.

“This product collection is the first significant run of NFL caps we’re doing here, and I’m very optimistic it won’t be the last,” said Christopher Koch, president and CEO of New Era, according to The Buffalo News.

In terms of what New Era plans to bring to the NFL hats, Koch said its all about fashion.
“It’s not just about a fan that likes to wear a Bills cap he sees on the sideline,” he said. “When he goes into the store to buy that cap, he sees a huge selection of other caps that he can buy.”
