Could a decorating mishap unite us rather than divide us? Americans tend to take their NFL team allegiances very seriously, so when we learned the repercussions of a Costco NFL branding mishap, we were shocked.
Here’s what went down:
A Costco employee named Tyler Weston spotted a new shipment of Eagles hats at his store location in Concordville, Pa., according to ABC13. The hats featured the Philadelphia Eagles logo. So far so good. Then Weston looked closer at the hats and realized the bills were embroidered with “Houston Texans” instead of “Philadelphia Eagles.”
“I started cracking up and said I can’t believe they made this mistake,” Weston told 6abc Action News.
Weston sent a photo of the hat to his friend and fellow Eagles fan Gina Lewis, who took to Twitter to share her discontent.
Eventually the photo circulated enough times that the Texans’ social media team came across it, and then they tweeted a response:

Well, the Eagles certainly couldn’t back down from the Texans’ call out, so they responded with their own version of the Texans’ cheer:

While Weston did not purchase the hat, his friend did.
“I did not buy it, but my coworker who is a Texans fan did and is hoping that the Texans can win the Super Bowl this year so the hat will have the last two Super Bowl champions on it,” he told ABC13.
So if the Texans end up winning the Super Bowl, these hats could go for a killing on eBay. That just goes to show you that a decorating error isn’t always a disaster. That doesn’t mean we recommend them, but we still enjoy the rare Cinderella story. Perhaps Eagles fans and Texans fans will forge an unlikely union through this upcoming NFL season.
That being said, go Eagles.
