As we discussed last week, augmented reality apps, like the immensely popular “Pokemon Go,” are on the rise. Tech giants basically are throwing money at augmented reality development. Now, Pantone just released a new app, Pantone Studio, for the iPhone on Tuesday. The app includes color guides, and, even cooler, a “color picker,” which allows users to take a picture of something in front of them and see exactly what shade it is.

“In our [market] research, we saw that designers are using mobile tools, and they want their phone to be a platform for design and a hub for gathering inspiration,” Ron Potesky, senior vice president of Pantone, said to Yahoo. “If we’re not mobile, we’re not Pantone in 10 years. It’s a must for us to be important and valuable to designers.”
The app also designs color palettes based on Instagram photos.
