Sony may have announced the scrapping of the James Franco and Seth Rogen comedy “The Interview,” but the film’s promotional items have been selling for high prices online. Items, such as posters, mugs and fliers, have become big ticket collectibles, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Original, full-size film posters have been selling for more than $200 on eBay. Some have been listed with “buy-now” prices of $1,000. One seller listed a poster for $13,000. Smaller fliers and posters have been selling for more than $50 each.
Other than printed products like fliers and posters, items, such as mugs and golf balls, are appearing online for large sums as well. A set of three golf balls advertising the movie was apparently listed online at $50, and a plastic drinking cup shaped like a nuclear missile has been listed at more than $3,000.
Even advertisements for bus stops and subway stations have found their way into the marketplace, with a subway banner selling for $700. A 30-square-foot banner designed for buses sold for $500 and a poster taken from a New York City telephone booth is currently listed at $359 on eBay, with an option to pay $60 for six months.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, more than 1,1000 “The Interview”-related items were listed on eBay.
