Quad/Graphics, Sussex, Wis., a printer of consumer magazines and catalogs, is laying off 422 workers at its East Greenville, Pa., facility, according to Philadelphia Magazine. The layoffs are scheduled to begin on or around Jan. 3, 2016.
Claire Ho, a spokesperson for Quad/Graphics, told Philadelphia Magazine that this is a “challenging time in the printing industry,” and that the company will transfer work to other locations.
“The decision to close our East Greenville plant is no reflection on employees’ performance,” Ho told Philadelphia Magazine. “Our employees there have worked hard to help their plants succeed. Rather, this is a strategic business decision. As a company, we continue to consolidate work into plants where we believe we can achieve the greatest manufacturing and distribution efficiencies. Other plants have more automated platforms better suited to future needs.”
Quad/Graphics recently held a job fair for employees of the Pennsylvania facility so they could apply for work at the company’s Martinsburg, W.V, or Saratoga Springs, N.Y., facilities.
