“The Case just in Case” is a complete kit that includes a radio with AM/FM and short wave frequencies, a flashlight, a cell-phone charger, a compass, a whistle and magnifying glass, and a weatherproof carry-on bag all enclosed in an aluminum storage case.
According to Richard Brown, president of the Fairfield, New Jersey-based company, what makes this item unlike others on the market is the fact that all of its components can be operated without any source of energy.
“There are no batteries, no plugs, no AC adaptors—just a few manual cranks and the items operate at full strength,” he said. “All the items can be independently run by hand and will work as long as you need them. Because every item works itself, the entire family can use them one by one.”
The item’s AM/FM/SW radio can be operated by crank without using the built-in rechargeable batteries. Independent testing indicates one minute of recharging with the built-in crank will generate up to 30 minutes of playing time. The radio can also be operated with two AA (UM3) batteries (not included) or an AC adaptor (not included).
The L.E.D. Environmental Flashlight is powered by a hand-triggered generator. The L.E.D. light can be used for up to 15,000 hours and the battery is designed to be recharged up to 600,000 times.
The cell-phone charger provides approximately six minutes of talk time and 30 minutes on standby for two minutes of charging. It is possible to charge and talk at the same time, in which case, since charging input is greater than power expended by the cell phone, the charge will never run out. Combined in the whistle is a compass, a magnifying glass and a thermometer. The water-resistant bag is included for transporting into the field.
