R.S. Owens & Co. Readies the PanHellenic Scholarship Foundation Awards

The PanHellenic Scholarship Foundation Awards, manufactured by R.S. Owens & Co., Chicago, were created to encourage Greek-American university students to develop into outstanding members of society through the support and advancement of their education.

The figure portrayed on the award is Nike of Paionios, which represents the organization’s efforts to encourage youth of Hellenic descent to triumph through hard work, dedication and determination.

The 24-karat gold electroplated version is given to the individual professional in the Hellenic community who displays exemplary service in his or her respective field.

The metal Nike Award is hand-cast in the U.S. using a hardened steel mold, and then polished to remove any imperfections. The 24-karat gold electroplated finish is enhanced with underlying layers of copper, nickel and silver to create a rich luster. The completed figure is mounted to a black marble base with an etched and color-filled imprint that proclaims the winner.

The intricate folds of clothing, wings and other details were carefully planned by R.S. Owens & Co. to give the best results during the casting process. The PanHellenic Nike award demonstrates how R.S. Owens & Co. can turn a victorious award pose into a sculpture, which could easily be displayed in an art gallery.
