Apple’s rumored decision to remove the Lightning jack in favor of the USB-C seemed like it would introduce a timeline where accessory makers would have to create another variation of their products to fit consumer need. However, leaked information about the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S8 might give those worried about new technology a sense of calm.
Because, as it looks right now, Samsung’s new smartphone device will include the USB-C port as well, according to Forbes.
This would be a huge benefit for those selling smartphone accessories. In the past, many companies had to have special add-ons for Apple’s proprietary Lightning jack, due to specifications and copyright laws. Now, with two of the major smartphone companies utilizing the same import jack, that opens the door to a whole new level of universal accessories and overlap.
Like previous releases, the Samsung Galaxy S8 looks like it will come in two sizes: one with a 5.8-inch display and another with a 6.2-inch display, according to Forbes.

And, like the rumors about the upcoming iPhone, it appears that Samsung has removed the physical home button in favor of more screen space. It also comes with iris recognition, curved OLED display and a heart rate sensor, giving it something in common with the increasingly-popular wearable tech items, like Fitbit.
If this is true, it shows that, without a doubt, USB-C technology really is the next big thing. What’s more, Samsung could follow Apple’s lead by eliminating the headphone jack, paving the way for either USB-C headphones or wireless headphones.
