Despite the big setbacks Samsung experienced with its Galaxy Note S7 and its batteries, the South Korean tech firm is looking forward to teasing its latest smartphone as soon as March.
According to Tech Radar, Samsung is prepped to officially announce and detail its Galaxy S8 on March 29, with an April 21 release date.
The company released a new video teaser for its “Unpacked” event on March 29, and Tech Radar reported that usually there is a one-month delay between announcement and shipping dates.
While this is exciting for Samsung customers, it’s important to look into how the company is addressing its battery problems.
CNET reported that Samsung is possibly using Sony batteries for its new smartphone product. Sony would be the third company to provide lithium-ion batteries to Samsung. It would, however, be the smallest contributor of batteries, with Samsung SDI Co. (where the batteries caused a factory fire) and Amperex being the top two.
Ongoing issues don’t seem to have hurt Samsung in the long run, however. Yes, the Galaxy Note 7 debacle was a big black mark on its reputation, but it wasn’t enough to completely scare users into other companies’ corners.
CNBC cited a Reuters/IPSOS opinion poll from November that found that 91 percent of existing Samsung customers would likely purchase another smartphone from it.
