‘Shark Week’ Promotional Tie-Ins and Co-Brands Are Awesome This Year

It’s the most wonderful time of the year, folks. At least it is for shark fans. Selachophobes are probably wise to stay away from the Discovery Channel for the next few days.

That’s right. It’s Shark Week.

And to celebrate the most celebrated educational television event of the year, Discovery Channel teamed up with an array of brands to chum the waters of commerce with delicious promotional products.

And, while it’s tough to pick our favorite shark (just kidding, it’s Hammerhead) [editor’s note: Brendan is wrong; it’s definitely the Tiger Shark], it’s not too difficult to pick some of our favorite Shark Week promotions and co-branding efforts.

1. Vans Sk8-Hi for charity

Vans shoes are already ubiquitous, and it’s one of the most enduring footwear brands ever. So, to work with Vans is already a great get. What makes this even more special is the design, which has a shark taking a big ol’ bite out of the iconic stripe. Also, proceeds from the shoe sales will go to Oceana, which works to protect the ocean and sea life. What’s not to love?

2. Vineyard Vines ‘Shark Week’ line

If films like “Jaws” taught us anything, it’s that you should stay away from the beaches of New England when a gigantic shark is wreaking havoc. Thankfully, that’s not the case right now, so Vineyard Vines fans can stock up on everything they need for the beach (like tumblers, flip-flops and hats) or for staying far away from shark-infested waters (ties, T-shirts and belts).

3. Build-A-Bear Workshop shark toys

To celebrate the more cuddly and adorable characteristics of sharks, Build-A-Bear Workshop is offering a line of shark stuffed animals that kids can customize and take home. Customers can pick either a Tiger Shark or Whale Shark, and then pick out fun beach-themed accessories. Who says sharks need to be scary? This brings new meaning to Quint’s description of shark’s eyes being like a doll’s eyes.

There are plenty more where that came from, like CVS offering Shark Week-themed promos, and a gift basket from Knockaround, too. You can check out more info at Fanfest.

In the meantime, kick back and watch some of nature’s most awe-inspiring creatures from the safety of your couch all week. And, if you do venture out into the water, remember that you’re gonna need a bigger boat.
