Minneapolis-based Showdown Displays helped to raise money for Common Hope, an organization that educates youth in underdeveloped nations.
The supplier participated in Common Hope’s fifth annual Golf Classic at the Mendakota Country Club in Mendota Heights, Minn. Aug. 4. All proceeds from the event went toward Common’s Hope work that involves finding sponsors for children in Guatemala.
“It was a great day to support Common Hope,” Brian Rome, vice president of operations at Showdown, said. “The golf was fun, but learning more about this organization has inspired me and my family to sponsor one of the children.”
Showdown currently sponsors more than 55 children in Guatemala through its Adopt-a-Child program through which the company and employees split the cost of supporting a child through payroll deductions. That money provides food, clothing, medical treatment and education to improve the life of the child and his or her family. Twice a year, Showdown sends employees to Guatemala to help construct schools and homes.
“It’s truly inspiring to see what a difference these efforts make,” Kevin Walsh, Showdown’s senior vice president of sales and marketing, said. “One of Showdown’s owners, Ed Flaherty, has been actively involved with Common Hope for over 20 years and currently serves on its board.”
