As smartphones evolve and features develop, more and more smartphone products have put the stylus to use. Many use it for writing quick notes or marking up design elements. But according to Phone Arena, Samsung might make the stylus more of a smartphone in its own way in the near future.
In 2014, Samsung filed a patent application for a stylus that included a built-in microphone and speaker. This means that, if Samsung developed the product, people could use the stylus as a bit of a headset, the way that some headphone cables work now. They could mount the pen on their shirts or bags, and use it as a phone.
Phone Arena reported that Samsung’s S Pen is in development, with officials looking for the best way to integrate the microphone into the hand-held accessory.
In addition to the phone call capabilities, Samsung wants to use the S Pen technology to create digital signatures, which would benefit those in e-commerce and business-to-business platforms.
For now, the S Pen technology looks like it will work with Galaxy Note products only, but if it catches on, it could be a must-have accessory for other smartphone and tablet products.
