Sony Lands Beatles Merch Rights as It Looks to Ramp Up Its Merchandising Division

Though we would never say that their breakup in 1970 means we have to “settle” for their massively impressive catalog, we do wish The Beatles could still give us some new tunes. We don’t have to carry the weight of disappointment in all respects, though, as Sony Music Entertainment will serve as the exclusive North American provider of the band’s memorabilia, meaning that any time at all end-users wish to enjoy Beatles branded merch, it won’t be long until they can have the goods to enjoy.

Apparel and “other products” will sate Beatlemaniacs’ desires for recollections of the chart-topping rock royals and will find Sony placing the garb and additional items in various stores, including, as License Global notes, Forever 21, FYE, Hot Topic and Target. Before they travel the long and winding roads to the establishments, though, they are enjoying a considerable presence on Sony’s Thread Shop site, with socks that Promo Marketing looked at last month making the cut.

Sony is beckoning The Beatles to be a lucrative addition to Thread Shop, its merchandising division, which it is counting on to build its artist merch sales. Just in time for the holidays, the collection of products related to The Fab Four means that although we’ll never get any new Beatles music (until someone invents a time machine), we can still convey our admiration for their output and influence.

The Thread Shop roster includes some pretty impressive names, including some folks who have received the Promo Marketing treatment because of their merchandise efforts, like Led Zeppelin and Michael Jackson. As The Beatles take their place among the Thread Shop roster members, we expect for fans to say “I need you” to the merch quite often, and for Sony to realize that every little thing it does to bolster the quartet’s reputation is likely to result in great sales.

Not stopping with the Thread Shop brainchild, the company will open a pop-up shop centering on The Beatles next week, making New York City even more appealing as a holiday season destination. Regarding the group’s Thread Shop store items, we can say that the site offers a solid merch-based look at the band’s discography and overall contributions to music, and inspires within us a desire to come together to buy every product.
