Promotional products professionals understand the necessity to verify their supply chains, especially when it comes to electronic devices. What’s more, they know that counterfeit items can pose a large risk.
Citing a study from Chartered Trading Standards Institute, Phone Arena reported that of 400 different chargers for Apple devices—all purchased from different retailers all over the world—397 failed a “basic safety test.” It also noted that 15 to 27 percent of items purchased from second-hand shops were deemed potentially unsafe.
The study doesn’t specify what the particular risk is, but Phone Arena speculated that it could be problems like faulty wiring or issues that degrade the battery causing a fire (like the Galaxy Note 7).
It’s a good reminder for consumers to purchase from trusted manufacturers and know exactly the product that they’re getting in advance. Otherwise, there could be big trouble down the road.
