Gold Bond Inc., Hixson, Tenn., is experiencing a temporary plant shutdown. Due to the effects of severe weather in Southeast Tennessee, the Tennessee Valley’s power system has been significantly damaged.
Approximately 95,000 businesses and homes surrounding Gold Bond’s headquarters are without power. Gold Bond’s production facility is included in this power loss; however, the company is committed to serving its customers through this period. Gold Bond’s customer service center is fully staffed and running on backup power generators.
The National Weather Service issued tornado warnings along much of the East Coast on Tuesday, and as many as 100 different tornadoes have affected southern states, including Alabama, Mississippi and Kentucky. Current estimates place the death toll from Tuesday’s storms at over 200, The New York Times reported.
Addressing customer’s concerns, Gold Bond’s president, Mark Godsey, issued this statement: “We are working with the Electric Power Board to find a quick solution to restoring power to the production facility. Unfortunately the issues resulting from the recent storm system significantly damaged nearly 30 percent of the businesses and homes in our metro area. Many of our team members and vendors experienced significant property loss and in some cases injuries. We are not sure when we will be back on line. We are working with customers to reroute orders if necessary in order to meet shipment deadlines. At this time, customers with immediate deadlines are being contacted by our staff. If you have questions about your orders, our customer service line is open and we are ready to assist you.”
