Apparel manufacturers are always looking for ways that their products can fulfill a need beyond avoiding indecency fines. Sometimes it’s helping people stay calm during stressful football games, other times it’s more practical, like temperature regulation.
While there are plenty of high-tech solutions, sometimes the natural way can be just as effective.
The apparel brand Buttercloth went the plant-based route with its Icy Cotton collection featuring shirts made with 29% mint fibers (along with cotton and spandex) to cool down the wearer.

In addition to antibacterial and anti-wrinkle properties, the fabric uses the naturally cooling mint to keep people comfortable on both the golf course and in the office.
The company secured a $250,000 investment from Robert Herjavec on “Shark Tank” and is now using its technology to create polos, dress shirts, T-shirts, underwear and face masks.
It’s always interesting to see how companies manage to reinvent something as simple as a T-shirt or a polo shirt. There’s always room for innovation, and as long as natural weather patterns and unpredictable office air conditioning exist, people will need apparel that caters to their specific pain points.
