We might never have world peace, but we can take solace in knowing that at least one thing enjoys almost universal acclaim: beer. Owing to that acceptance, the First Sip Brew Box has enjoyed a three-year existence as a subscription box provider that sends beer merch to aficionados across the globe, giving breweries some clout in a promotional products-heavy cosmos.

The Pittsburgh City Paper chronicled the novel idea yesterday, looking favorably upon the efforts of Dennis and Samantha Guy to broaden the reputation of those who like seeing end-users hopped up on hops. The beer merch, according to the publication, encompasses a number of products, including candy made with actual hops and beer candles, along with the usual assortment of tees and glassware. There’s also a beer mug and wine glass made out of cheese. In other words, so many people are upping their promotional game, and the First Sip Brew Box duo has caught the bug in the name of helping breweries. It would be cool enough to chronicle their efforts if the Guys had chosen just to help their fellow Americans to enjoy the beer merch, but inhabitants of five other countries are benefiting from the Pennsylvania couple’s decision “to market and link other businesses.”
Subscription boxes have become a successful means for entities to attract more attention, so one that relies on beer merch, just on the surface owing to the international reputation that alcohol enjoys, sounds foolproof. Given that the Guys have helmed their concept for three years, one can presume that their one-brewery-a-month setup will continue to meet favor, and that it could come to include more countries.
The Pittsburgh City Paper’s investigation of their work ends with Dennis Guy saying that “the best friend of a small business is another small business,” a sentiment that has great relevance to the promotional products world, especially for fledgling establishments. While there are always going to be commerce giants, the little guys, no pun intended, need to band together to assist one another. Since subscription boxes and beer merch are working for First Sip, what else might come to be a small business-benefiting combination?
