The biggest TikTok sensation right now is a pen. Specifically, a Sharpie pen that has more than a million TikTok users obsessed with the smooth gel ink and comfortable grip.
The kids just cannot get enough of it.
TikTok user Jackie Brown recently posted a video (profanity warning) of herself hunting for what she was promised was “the most amazing pen ever” that “glides across paper like Kristi Yamaguchi used to on ice.”
For my pen aficionados out there, just know this baby glides across paper like Kristi Yamaguchi used to on ice. pic.twitter.com/aSQxdDQpSB

When she found it, she filmed herself writing and confirmed to her more than 1 million viewers that it is, “smooth as [expletive].” More than 1.4 million TikTok users liked the video.
TikTok has been something that Gen Z has pretty much claimed for itself, leaving older generations perplexed, at best, by meme dances and a language all its own. But, the introduction of pens as a showstopper is something that, well, actually makes sense to us.
There’s nothing better than a good pen, and to see the kids going crazy about a quality pen is good for the promotional products industry.
Let’s look at what made this particular pen so highly regarded.
The ink “glides across the paper like Kristi Yamaguchi used to on ice.” That’s some A+ copy writing. Also, props to these kids for knowing who Kristi Yamaguchi is. Everyone is looking for a smooth gel writing experience. It just feels luxurious. But, there are pitfalls to that, which brings us to our second point.
It won’t smudge your hands. According to Yahoo, one southpaw Amazon shopper left a glowing review of that Sharpie pen, saying it was “the first pen I’ve ever had in my life that didn’t smudge on [my] pinky finger.”
Other reviewers had nice things to say about the balance and grip, meaning that it’s as comfortable to use as it is nice to look at on paper.
Does this definitively tell us that these are the features Gen Z is looking for in their writing instruments? No. But it does tell us that everyone, even the youths, care about what they’re writing with. Everyone needs a good pen. And once you find that perfect pen, you use it until you’re scraping the paper with a dry stylus.
Now’s also a good time to remind you that Promo Marketing’s free product search engine has more than 300,000 promotional products, some of them similar to this pen. Check it out. You might just find the next TikTok sensation.
