UPS Expands Early-morning Delivery Coverage

For the second time this year, UPS has increased the number of zip codes where it is offering its early-morning delivery service.

Introduced in 1994, its program, Next Day Air Early a.m. ZIPs, increased by 400 ZIP codes earlier this year, and is expanding to 766 more ZIP codes, starting today. As a result, the service now is guaranteed for 87 percent of U.S. businesses, according to UPS.

“For critical, time-sensitive shipments, this is one of those services our customers rely upon,” said Charles Strain, UPS vice president of marketing. “UPS Early a.m. is experiencing strong growth over last year, and this announcement is another example of how we will continue to respond to our customers’ needs for express solutions.”

UPS claims it will now serve more ZIP codes—more than 26,000 total— and businesses by 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. than any other carrier.

Its competitor FedEx has been expanding a similar service called First Overnight, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

UPS’ overnight delivery provides service Monday through Saturday. Guaranteed, on-time weekday deliveries are available to major cities by 8 a.m.; most other U.S. cities by 8:30, 9, 9:30 or 10 a.m.; and additional locations by 10:30, 11 or 11:30 a.m.
