If you’ve seen the movie “Fast Times at Ridgemont High,” you probably remember Spicoli.
Sean Penn’s stoner scene-stealer made it clear that he cared about three things: tasty waves, a cool buzz and Vans checkered slip-on sneakers.
OK, he didn’t actually vocalize that last one, but he wears them throughout the movie, and in one scene bangs them against his skull to demonstrate how, uh, “wasted” he was.
Spicoli disciples have been rocking Vans checkered slip-ons for decades, but the really committed fans will probably want to get their hands on these “Fast Times” branded Vans, modeled after a pair made exclusively for the movie’s premiere in 1982.

These particular branded shoes were given out in very small numbers as a promotional product. They’re being brought back to life, though, as part of Vans’ Anaheim Factory Collection, which features footwear hand-made like the ones in the ’82, but with the modern UltraCush footbed for added comfort, according to HypeBeast.
They’re set to hit the streets (and Spicoli’s skull) in March in limited quantities, so “Fast Times” fans will have to act fast (times). Otherwise, no shoes, no dice.
If Vans really wanted to go for full-on “Fast Times” authenticity, the shoes would come with a free download of “Led Zeppelin IV” for all of your date-night needs, maybe some Sanka if you’re trying to cut out coffee, or maybe a coupon for a free pizza to enjoy on your own time.
But, regardless of whether Vans throws in all these fan service bonuses, having a pair of these checkered “Fast Times” sneakers says one thing:
Hey bud, let’s party!
