The Washington Nationals are gearing up to celebrate the team’s 10th anniversary in D.C. this season. According to the Washington Post, in addition to wearing a commemorative patch on uniforms, the team will reveal 13 different anniversary-related giveaway items through a campaign called “10 Days of Teddy.”
Every weekday from Feb. 2 to 13, the team’s mascot, modeled after Teddy Roosevelt (with a slightly off-putting large head), will be somewhere in the D.C. metropolitan area with Nats giveaways. The club will post clues on Twitter about where fans can find him.
The first fan to locate the mascot will score a box containing a 10th anniversary baseball. The back of the ball will reveal one of the other promotional items. Whoever finds that box and tweets a photo of the contents will get the ball, a voucher for that secret item, and two tickets to the game at which the item will be given away.
Not much else is known about the giveaway items, other than that two prizes will come with a set of two Opening Day tickets, and five of the yet-to-be-revealed items are bobbleheads, representing five great on-field moments in Nationals history. The other five items also celebrate historical moments, but those collectibles are still shrouded in secrecy.
Historically, the Nationals have given away some fun items, such as the Jayson Werth garden gnome, so fans can probably expect items that stray from the traditional promotional giveaways.
