Key Takeaways

• Counselor Top 40 distributor Cimpress (asi/162149) has acquired a majority stake in CloudLab to strengthen its global web-to-print technology capabilities.

• CloudLab will continue operating independently while leveraging Cimpress’ resources to accelerate innovation and growth.

After three years of strategic investment, web-to-print software provider CloudLab is joining Counselor Top 40 distributor Cimpress (asi/162149).

Founded in 2013 in Dortmund, Germany, CloudLab has three primary software products: printQ, packQ and brandQ for digital printing companies and large corporations using web-to-print technology.

“CloudLab’s market-leading technology and its autonomous team’s innovative power exemplify our strategy,” Cimpress CEO Robert S. Keane said. “Becoming a majority shareholder of CloudLab is the next logical step. Our goal is clear: We would like to offer our customers worldwide the best possible experience in design enablement. That is precisely why we are reinforcing the factors that make CloudLab so successful: its technological edge and entrepreneurial independence.”

Following this step, CloudLab’s Marc Horriar and Ionut Berescu, CEO and CTO, respectively, will remain in their positions to lead CloudLab as part of the Cimpress family of companies, which include Vistaprint, National Pen, Counselor Top 40 supplier Goldstar (asi/73295) and more.

“The support from Cimpress has enabled us to accelerate our vision over the past few years,” Horriar said. “We have gained valuable insights and found that our cultures are a perfect match, and Cimpress fully supports our commitment to serve all customers equally, even those who compete with Cimpress. As a result, we were never under pressure to sell. Cimpress took the time to show us the immense potential that being part of the Cimpress group unlocks, allowing us to significantly drive the future of print mass customization for all our customers as a decentralized subsidiary.”

While CloudLab customers will be able to enjoy access to Cimpress’ resources worldwide, it will continue to operate as an independent software provider. Financial details of the investment were not disclosed.

Based on estimated 2024 North American promotional product revenue of $326.4 million, Cimpress ranks 11th on Counselor’s most recent list of largest distributors in the industry.
