In 2014, new Top Level Domains (TLDs) became available. This made it possible for companies to think outside of the traditional Web domain extensions, like dot-com, dot-org and dot-gov, and use more creative or fitting extensions, like dot-law for a lawyer.
Now, Afilias, a Dublin, Ireland-based domain registry operator, announced in a press release that the dot-promo extension has become available on April 14 for eligible trademark holders. This current launch for select trademark holders will last until May 16. Then, from May 17 to 21, dot-promo domains will be available using a Dutch auction format, where available domains will start at a maximum price and decrease daily. Open registration will begin on May 23.
“Afilias is excited to introduce dot-promo, the Internet address that is designed to help deal-conscious consumers find special promotions, incentives and more,” Roland LaPlante, chief marketing officer for Afilias, said in a press release. “Any entity that sells services or products to deal-conscious customers should offer their specials on a dot-promo address.”
Get.promo, a website detailing the benefits of the new domain extension, said that it is aimed at brands that want to present themselves to wholesalers, retailers or other organizational customers.
