Automatically Change Fiscal Years in QuickBooks With This Trick

Ask the Accountant…

Question: When I am in QuickBooks, I have to change dates every time I try to run reports. Our year is July 1 to June 30. How do I change that so that our fiscal year is automatic?

Answer: In QuickBooks Desktop (Pro, Premier or Enterprise), go to “Company” > “My Company” > “Edit” by clicking pencil icon in top right hand corner. Click “Report Information” on list on left of the screen, enter the first month in your fiscal year.

In QuickBooks Online, click “Big Gear” in the top right of the screen, click “Company Settings” in the “Settings” column, click “Advanced” at the bottom of the options on the left of the screen. In the “Accounting” section at the top of the screen, enter the first month of your fiscal year.
