Question: I’ve heard rumors that QuickBooks Desktop is going away. Is that true?
Answer: I’ve heard those rumors for years, but QB Desktop (Pro, Premier and Enterprise) is improved upon year-over-year, and appears to be here to stay. I recently attended a webinar by Joe Woodard about this very subject. He quoted statistics that there are about 4 million QB Desktop (QBD) users compared to 4.5 million QuickBooks Online (QBO) users, and there were 14 improvements made to QBD in 2020. This shows a commitment by Intuit to its QB Desktop products, which provide a significant, albeit steady, share of annual income.
The fact of the matter is that QB Desktop serves more complex types of businesses, which QB Online does not. Ours is a complex and unique business. We need the added functionality of QBD over QBO. I’m a big fan of QuickBooks Desktop for our business and am pleased that it looks as though QBD is here to stay for the foreseeable future.
