The “Resident Evil” video game franchise has been going strong for 25 years now. After a long list of video game releases and a film franchise, too, Capcom is still finding ways to connect to fans.
Apparently, fans have been really curious what the main characters smell like, and whether they can smell like them, too.
As part of the 25th anniversary celebrations for the game, Capcom is releasing a line of perfume scents in Japan, each one modeled after the franchise’s main characters.
The “Biohazard 25th Anniversary Mini Perfume Collection” features three scents, each named after a character from the game—Leon S. Kennedy, Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine.

In addition to scents supposedly influenced by the characters, each bottle features a label modeled after the character’s role in the game.
Per Screen Rant:
Redfield’s is shaped like the Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance emblem, Kennedy’s is shaped like the Raccoon City Police Department badge, and Valentine’s is shaped like the Special Tactics and Rescue Service logo.
Unlike a candle that they sold a few years ago, which was meant to enhance the sensory immersion of a gory video game, the perfume is meant to smell, you know, good.
A single bottle runs at about $60, but they’re only available in Japan for the time being.
Obviously, perfume is not edible. But, this kind of reminds us of other lines released by musical acts, where instead of an item connecting to a character in a game, it connects to a particular song.
The Killers released a line of hot sauces, each with names and flavor profiles that touched on the theme of different songs. The Rolling Stones did something similar with chocolate bars.
It’s certainly an out-of-the-box idea. You wouldn’t relate a horror video game franchise with smelling good, would you? But, with fans as passionate as they are about the games and movies, a perfume bottle with their favorite character’s name would serve as a cool collectible item whether they use the perfume or not.
Capcom is now offering Resident Evil perfumes but doesn't actually say what they smell like. Do they smell like murder and rampage, or do they smell like the frustration we felt in Village when we were yelling at Chris, "THIS COULD HAVE BEEN AN EMAIL"? 👉 https://t.co/a8KGx7fmVs pic.twitter.com/TgI86qGrmd

Your first instinct might be to play it safe, and go with the obvious choices for promotional products. But, if “Resident Evil” can make perfume, the sky is truly the limit.
