Ubisoft Lets Gamers Turn In-Game Screenshots Into Custom Merch

Every video game system these days comes with a way to take screenshots of the action to share online with friends and other players (sometimes enemies). Maybe it’s a particularly tough looking photo of Batman knocking out some faceless bad guys. Maybe it’s a scenic overlook in “Red Dead Redemption.”

Whatever it is, sometimes it’s nice enough that you want to rock that photo on a piece of apparel, and video game developer Ubisoft is making that a dream a reality.

Using the photo mode in games like “Assassin’s Creed Valhalla” and others, players can capture moments and then use Ubisoft’s partnership with Zakeke to add them to items like T-shirts, hoodies, mugs, phone cases and more.

So, maybe they’re especially proud of their character in the game and want to show it off.

And like every social media platform these days, there are editing capabilities like filters, sizing tools and more.

According to Digital Trends, Ubisoft has incorporated the Zakeke partnership into its digital storefronts.

The idea all started because e-sports teams wanted ways to create custom apparel as uniforms with their names on them for games like “Rainbow Six.” As the e-sports community grows in popularity, already selling out arenas for tournaments, fans will want ways to rep their favorite teams and games the same way they do now for traditional sports.

As we’ve seen, personalization and customization are big drivers of consumer purchasing behavior. Giving buyers the ability to create custom merchandise seamlessly via online platform—as Netflix did recently with its “Squid Game” custom apparel creator, and as Ubisoft is doing here—increases the likelihood that they’ll make a purchase.
