PRINTING United Alliance Holds First Legislative Fly-In Event

More than 35 print industry leaders met in Washington, D.C., Thursday May 15 for the PRINTING United Alliance Legislative Fly-In. Executives from Miller Zell, Lithotone, BR Printers, BMI, and about two dozen other commercial printers held meetings with members of Congress and their staffs to discuss specific policy issues and invite their representatives to tour their facilities.

In addition to educating senators and representatives about the size and scope of the printing industry – a $90.3 billion market comprising more than 44,000 establishments – print company executives pushed a number of issues critical to printers. One of the top asks, to address the industry’s lack of skilled workers, was urging passage of the Freedom to Invest in Tomorrow’s Workforce Act of 2025, which would allow 529 education savings plans to cover expenses related to post-secondary training.

“We’re trying to grow, we’re trying to find workers, train workers, and it’s hard,” noted Albert “Chip” Basse III, president of Albert Basse Associates, who flew in from Massachusetts to attend the Fly-In and speak with Senator Edward Markey.
