For this week’s post, I decided to nix the celebrity angle in light of a topic that resonates with those of us who are a little less Hollywood. On January 15, I wrote about “Getting It Right,” and with companies getting caught up in a “fourth-quarter frenzy” it’s time to revisit that idea.
I’m generally not into the feel-good-Kumbaya-themed stuff, but positivity certainly has its place. How many times have you been plagued by self-doubt or battled life’s “What Ifs”? Probably more than you’d like to admit. Thanks to some self-imposed pressure to please our clients, our supervisors and the like, a few bad moments can easily limit productivity. And soon enough, one gloomy hour turns into an entire shift … five days a week.
Mistakes are bound to happen. Not every contract will be renewed. Not every idea is brilliant. And not everyone will like you. While that raging pity party may sound appealing, be kind to yourself instead. Last time, I encouraged all of you to make a list—daily or weekly—of all the things you’re doing right. Have you kept up with the assignment? If so, have you noticed a pattern? Because I practice what I preach, here’s my list for the week:
- I recently completed a successful production cycle for our sister publication, Print+Promo.
- I am caught up on all of my emails after being out of the office for two days.
- I fit some writing into my schedule today.
- I made at least one person smile this morning.
- I recently learned about a cool, new technology.
Now it’s your turn. What are you doing RIGHT? Tell me in the comments section below. (Don’t hedge your statements!)
