Custom HBC Acquires Dovetail Ventures, Ranked in HOT 500 List

Custom HBC Corporation, Waconia, Minn., recently purchased the assets and equipment of Oxnard, California-based Dovetail Ventures, a health and beauty care supplier. In addition, the company was ranked #262 on Entrepreneur’s HOT 500 list, an annual ranking of the fastest-growing entrepreneurial businesses in the United States, which was published in the magazine’s August issue. Custom HBC was chosen from more than 19 million businesses reviewed for the ranking.

Of the acquisition, company president and owner, Larry Wilhelm, said, “This acquisition adds unique, proprietary sports-ball shaped products to our product line-up, thereby enhancing our ability to support our distributor customers.”

Dovetail Ventures’ owner and president, David Shepherd, will continue managing the business through the end of the year, at which time it will be moved to Custom HBC’s Waconia facility.

For 13 years Entrepreneur magazine, with the help of the Corporate Research Board, has identified the nation’s fastest-growing companies and the entrepreneurs behind them. Criteria for each company included factors such as a minimum level of sales growth, positive job growth from 2002 to 2006 and company sales for 2006 exceeding $1 million.

“For decades, we’ve recognized that entrepreneurs fuel the U.S. economy as the primary generators of new jobs,” said Rieva Lesonsky, senior vice president and editorial director of Entrepreneur. “We’re proud to salute America’s leading entrepreneurial companies, which contribute so much to the nation’s and the world’s economy.”

Wilhelm said, “We are grateful for the support of our promotional distributor customers, without whom this award would not have been possible.”
