Disney fans lined up for hours outside of the Anaheim Convention Center to get their hands on D23 Expo merchandise. Some might have been there to get their family and friends some Disney-themed gifts, but others saw a huge opportunity for resale, as many of the items are currently going for big bucks on eBay.
For example, the Orange County Register reported that a doll of Princess Jasmine from “Aladdin” was sold at the expo for $120. The same doll went for $1,200 on eBay.
The expo, which ran Aug. 14 to 16, featured many pieces of limited, convention-only merchandise featured including pin sets, shirts, Mickey Mouse ears and more.
The Orange County Register reported that a Pixar-themed Hawaiian shirt retailed for $99 at the convention, but has been sold for as much as $275 online. A Frozen pin set was re-sold online $160—up from $125 from the convention. The retro $20 Mickey ears were listed for $60 online.
When collectors and fans search eBay for D23 items, they’ll find pin sets listed upwards of $290, dolls listed at nearly $4,000 and a Disneyland 50th anniversary plaque for $6,500.
One expo shopper told the Orange County Register that she estimated 80 percent of shoppers plan to resell their merchandise online.
