Elon Musk Says ‘Probably’ to Replica Astronaut Suits, ‘Sure’ to Model Rockets as SpaceX Merch

If you give Elon Musk credit for literally nothing else, you simply must hand it to the guy for being tuned in on social media (for better or worse). In this case, it’s for the better, since he seems to have heard the cries of space travel fanatics and has promised some upcoming SpaceX merch. And, if this comes to fruition, boy did he deliver in classic Elon fashion.

Folks, this Twitter exchange ticks multiple boxes on the Elon Musk Twitter bingo card—the positive but noncommittal response, the hope of some over-the-top merchandise option.

Here’s another.

At this point, Musk doesn’t even have to do the thinking for himself. He can just sit back and let the masses come up with the marketing ideas for him. He’s crowdsourcing branded merchandise concepts without even lifting a finger.

Now that the Demo-2 mission was a success, there’s going to be plenty of demand for Crew Dragon merchandise. No, you probably can’t wear the space suit to the grocery store or something as easily as a T-shirt, but it’d make for one heck of a collector’s item.

Obviously “Probably” and “Sure” aren’t air-tight statements promising merchandise down the road. But it shows that at least Musk is thinking about the merchandise side of the SpaceX business (on which he’s dropped the ball a little), and he’s up for listening to the fans and giving them what they want.

Stay tuned.
