Fairytale Brownies has decided to voluntarily recall peanut butter brownies and cookies identified with the lot codes available on the FDA’s website. The products were distributed primarily through the company’s mail-order channel, as well as some retail outlets. This decision is based on a recall initiated on September 24, 2012 by peanut butter manufacturer Sunland Inc. of Portales, N.M. Fairytale Brownies purchased all-natural peanut butter from Sunland Inc. and used the product for a short period of time from August 15, 2012 through the date of the recall.
Sunland Inc. initiated the voluntary recall because certain products may have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections, endocarditis and arthritis. Fairytale Brownies products have not been associated with any illness to date and no other Fairytale Brownies products are being recalled at this time.
As an extra precaution, the company is asking anyone who is in possession of Peanut Butter Brownies, Sprites or Cookies with the lot codes listed on the FDA’s website to discard the product. The company sincerely apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause.
