FDA List of Dangerous Hand Sanitizers Reaches 114, Includes Ohio Manufacturer

The FDA list of potentially dangerous hand sanitizers containing or manufactured in facilities containing methanol has reached 114 products.

The latest round of additions includes products from Mexican suppliers Notarize SA de CV, DEPQ International S de RL de CV, Quimica Manga de Mexico SA de CV, and Roque Plast SA de CV, as well as Ohio-based Spartan Chemical Co. Inc.

The two products recalled from Spartan Chemical Co Inc. are the Lite ’n Foamy Lemon Blossom Hand Sanitizer and Foamy Lemon Blossom Hand Sanitizer, both found to include microbial contamination and voluntarily recalled on July 1.

The products from Mexican suppliers were either found to have no presence in the U.S. market or placed under import alerts.

The FDA stated that consumers should not use hand sanitizer products from these companies, as methanol could cause serious side effects including blindness or death.

We will continue to monitor this story as more products are added to the list.
