Geiger, Lewiston, Maine, will celebrate GivingTuesday by donating unused socks and underwear to local nonprofits on Dec. 3.
GivingTuesday, celebrated on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving in the U.S., is a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage giving and to celebrate generosity. The goal is to create a massive wave of generosity that lasts well beyond that day and touches every person on the planet.
“When GivingTuesday launched in the U.S. in 2012, we believed that technology and social media could be used to make generosity go viral,” said Asha Curran, GivingTuesday’s CEO and co-founder. “People and organizations around the world proved us right.”
Geiger associates are encouraged to give to its local community by donating unused socks and underwear through its inaugural Toes & Tushies clothing drive. Members of the Geiger community who work away from the Maine headquarters are urged to donate to their local nonprofits to spread the generosity around the world.
“This cause is immensely important,” said Jo-an Lantz, president and CEO of Geiger. “The need for basics—socks and undergarments—is great, particularly because these are items so many of us take for granted. This drive will have a profound impact for us all through the simple gesture of giving and participating in GivingTuesday. I hope you will join me in participating.”
