IBSA Awarded RFID Contract with Premier

Dayton, Ohio-based International Business Solutions Alliance (IBSA) announced it is bringing special pricing for its technology advancements to more than 2,100 hospitals and 58,000 health care organizations through a recently awarded radio frequency identification (RFID) agreement with Premier Purchasing Partners, the group purchasing unit of Premier Inc, Charlotte, N.C. The 36-month agreement for RFID Asset Tracking and Management Solutions represents a new contract category for Premier, one of the country’s largest health care alliances.

Hospitals are burdened with intense requirements to maintain effective inventories of the high-value surgical supplies and assets that are used to deliver patient care, requiring excessive inventory carrying and management expense. RFID accurately tracks all items added or removed from inventories, allowing significantly reduced costs and a rapid return-on-investment. Within health care, in addition to tracking high-value assets and surgical supplies, RFID can be used within patient wristbands, pneumatic tubes (carriers) or similar items to enhance compliance and accountability.

Not only can RFID bring huge costs savings and benefits to the health care market, RFID can be implemented through all industries, such as manufacturing, retail, hospitality, banking and finance. RFID technology is accomplished by placing labels or tags that include an antenna and computer chip on items that need to be tracked, and the use of RFID “read zones” and portable readers (radio waves) to monitor the movement and location of RFID-tagged items.
