iClick, Seattle, a leading supplier of branded USB flash drives to the promotional products industry, has announced it is now using a 100 percent biodegradable plastic as its standard packaging. The enhanced polyethylene BIO FILM will break down in as little as nine months when exposed to a composting environment, but the material is stable, strong and nearly clear, making it ideal for packaging applications.
Other features of this upgraded packaging include the ability to print custom messages on every bag and each bag being security sealed before shipping.
“We saw this new packaging as an opportunity to do so many positive things at once, for our customers and for the environment,” said Jeff Hall, president of iClick. “The fact that the packaging is Earth-friendly and biodegrades naturally was the key driver. We can now put a tamper-proof seal on the package to further strengthen our quality control from production to delivery. Further, we can support our distributor partners by printing their name or their customer’s information on the package. The benefits are too good to ignore.”
The packaging breaks down in a three-phase process that includes the oxidation of polymer chains when exposed to biodegradation promoters. Mineralization occurs when soil-based microbes breakdown the polymers to carbon dioxide, water and biomass.
