IMC Creates New Position to Complement Marketing Efforts

International Merchandise Concepts (IMC), Agoura Hills, Calif., appointed Doug Smith to the newly created position of creative services manager. Smith will coordinate the production of all marketing materials, manage the graphics department and assist the vice president of sales and marketing in developing and implementing IMC marketing strategies.

Smith brings with him 16 years of experience in art creation and production, sales and account management and marketing. His sales and marketing experience has included the development of national marketing programs and account acquisitions.

Of the new position, which he has held for a little over two weeks, Smith said, “The slower season is starting to wrap up and the busy holiday season is now here; we have a lot of projects going on at the same time.”

He and his three-person team are working on virtual proofs, and are busy planning the design content for IMC’s annual catalog, which will be in production within a few weeks.

Although new to the industry, Smith is no novice to the marketing field. He has held upper-level marketing/graphic design positions within the commercial printing, banking/finance and pharmaceutical industries.

When asked about his goals for the coming year, Smith said, “As an overseer of projects, I hope to effectively streamline the busiest quarter of the year—making sure that projects move through smoothly.”

Another of Smith’s goals is to ensure that IMC’s annual catalog meets and exceeds company standards. “From a production end, I want to deliver the annual catalog to IMC’s owners and executives at every level they expect,” he said.

Smith also plans to expand IMC’s creative department.

“We are very excited to add someone of Doug’s ability to the IMC team,” noted Wendy Simon, vice president of sales and marketing. “We believe his strong background in marketing and production, coupled with his knowledge of design techniques will ensure the continued growth of IMC.”
