Kinder is under scrutiny after critics said its Surprise Eggs feature sexist packaging and toys.
According to Metro UK, folks are upset that the company has seemingly assigned gender-spacific packaging by using pink and blue coloring, and have used that to decide which toys go in which items. The blue packaging is filled with Hot Wheels cars, and the pink includes Hello Kitty toys.
It’s important to note here that the packaging doesn’t specifically state that either packaging is intended to be gender-specific, but some might make the immediate connection, based on other items and packaging.
Rhetorical question: Why are Kinder putting Hello Kitty toys in pink eggs, cars in blue?
I like Hello Kitty AND pink & it's the 21st C.? 🤔 pic.twitter.com/X6qVVFZdTs

“In the U.K., Kinder Surprise eggs are available in different colored designs for limited edition promotions because consumer feedback showed that parents found it helpful as a guide to the type of toys found inside,” the company told Metro. “We don’t label them as being for boys or girls because we know children enjoy all types of toys.”
