Leed’s announced the company will close its production operations in Warren, Ohio, effective April 27, 2009. Leed’s began leasing the 256,000 square-foot facility in August 2006, to serve as an overflow warehouse and production facility to its New Kensington, Pa. headquarters. The closure will result in the elimination of 81 positions. Current and forecasted order volumes, as impacted by the softening economy, make it no longer necessary to maintain two separate facilities. All production activities will be consolidated in Leed’s headquarters facility.
In addition, Leed’s will reduce its non-production workforce in the New Kensington office by 4.5 percent to better match business needs. Leed’s had experienced tremendous growth in recent years and increased its staff to support continued growth into the future. Current economic conditions, however, have necessitated the trimming of the support staff by 44 positions.
The company noted the decisions were made after careful consideration of future trends and the determination that the change will not impact Leed’s distributors. “Leed’s has been, and continues to be, a very healthy company,” said David Nicholson, president of Leed’s. “These organizational changes represent Leed’s continued focus on maintaining financial strength and stability in order to provide uninterrupted industry-leading products and services to distributors.”
