New Scribble Pen Replicates Any Color with Scanner

scribbleFor those of you who answer the question, “What’s your favorite color?” with “rainbow,” there may finally be the perfect pen for you. The Scribble Pen uses a special ink cartridge and scanner to replicate any color with both a ballpoint pen tip and stylus tip for tablets.

According to Mashable, the Scribble Pen allows users to touch the RGB color sensor built into the pen to any colored object, and then write with matching ink.

According to the Scribble Pen website, the ink is water-resistant, and the tablet-ready pen is compatible with both Android and Apple operating systems, letting users save their colors for later projects.

The pens currently are available for sale—$300 for the Scribble Pen for paper and tablets, and $119 for the Scribble Pen for tablets.

If you’re reading this thinking, “This sounds too good to be true,” you’re probably not alone.

Mashable reported that the Scribble Pen launched on Kickstarter in 2014 and raised $366,566. However, the campaign ended after the company failed to show details on how the item worked or provide a working prototype. The Scribble Pen surfaced on Tilt, a similar crowdfunding site, and raised $227,540 before it was canceled again.

Since the item currently is for sale, however, it looks like the company can back up its claims. Check out a video below to see how the pen works and its various uses.

With the increasing popularity over stylus pens, it could fit as a promotional item.
