Taking coffee on the go is common for commuters, but there is the inconvenience of storing a big travel thermos or bringing a mug arises. Smash Cup, a New York-based company that makes portable coffee cups that can fit in a pocket or bag, is launching its product in February of 2015.
According to an article by The Daily Pennsylvanian, the goal of the product is to cut down on wasted paper from coffee shops and develop an environmentally friendly reusable cup. The product was developed while founder Ben Melinger was a student at The University of Pennsylvania. He and the rest of his team found that while other collapsible cups were present on the market, none were suitable for coffee.
The Smash Cup is made of silicon rather than metal, which is common in similar products.
The company has raised over $120,000 in funding from more than 4,000 backers on Kickstarter.
