The Specialty Advertising Association of Greater New York (SAAGNY), based in Montvale, N.J., announced today that a Product Safety Quality Assurance Center (QAC) will be available at PROMOTIONS EAST 2009. The show’s exhibiting suppliers will have an opportunity to have products scanned for compliance in accordance with the lead thresholds outlined in the new Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA).
Jonathan Riegel, CAS, president of SAAGNY, commented, “PROMOTIONS EAST 2009 will present this unique and important addition to this year’s show which takes place from June 1 to 3 in Atlantic City. Compliance with CPSIA will be a challenge for all suppliers and distributors and we hope that the QAC will not only offer an important service but will also provide an educational opportunity for all attendees.” Riegel continued, “We are particularly pleased to announce that the lead-scanning services will be provided by a technician from Prime Resources Corporation. Prime has employed an in-house technical services department dedicated to scanning all of its own products since November 2007.”
“A critical part of complying with CPSIA for every supplier is knowing the lead content of every product in its inventory,” stated Rick Brenner, president and CEO of the Bridgeport, Connecticut-based Prime Resources. “We are pleased to work with SAAGNY to lend our expertise, our XRF scanning equipment and our technical services team to PROMOTIONS EAST. Product scanning with XRF is a valuable first step in identifying whether a product contains lead, which can then be further verified, if necessary, at a certified third-party lab, such as STR, Intertek, Bureau Veritas or SGS.”
“On Wednesday morning, June 3, as part of the PROMOTIONS EAST University educational program, there will be a panel discussion about the law and its implications for the industry,” Riegel concluded.
