In January 2014, Harriet Gatter, former owner and operator of Presidential Promotions, announced the opening of her QuickBooks Pro Advisory services company, Accounting Support LLC. For 23 years, Harriet operated her own promotional products distributorship, performing all the necessary and never-ending functions, including accounting. “I suppose I am a little different. Yes, I loved working with my customers and suppliers. I also loved the creativity in selecting items and designing them, but I also was excited recording and tracking my transactions in QuickBooks and having my month end reconciliations balance,” Harriet said.

QuickBooks is the predominant accounting software serving small business owners, and Harriet used it throughout her distributor business experience. After selling her business, she was certified as a QuickBooks ProAdvisor and was almost immediately called upon to help a distributor friend recreate her accounting records as a result of a complete loss of data.

Harriet said that the effort was enlightening. “The job took several months, and I realized that my experience in the business allowed me to easily communicate and talk to the suppliers. I knew exactly what to ask for and saved tons of time not having to bother the owner about every detail. I didn’t have to learn the business,” she said. This caused her to realize that the complexities and the uniqueness of the promotional products business, and her expertise in it, make her QuickBooks advice all the more valuable.
