The band Radiohead has never conformed to the standards of other musical acts—both sonically and in terms of their merchandise.
Remember last year when the band sold all kinds of off-kilter merchandise, like plush toys, notebooks and water bottles? This year, rather than taking the usual band route of printing a slew of T-shirts, the U.K. group is selling an eco-friendly backpack featuring the artwork from the album “A Moon Shaped Pool.”
It’s an interesting use of eco-friendly design, though. According to Pitchfork, the bag is made from 40 recycled plastic bottles. It’s currently on sale on the band’s online store for $110.
It could be a booming trend: Bands using other items rather than just T-shirts to get their names out there. Radiohead has always been pretty far ahead of the curve, so it wouldn’t be farfetched to believe that more artists will follow suit, opting for recycled items like this bag (or simply backpacks overall).
For promotional products distributors, this means that backpacks could be options for clients that you might not think would make them their first choice.
