Following a complete recall of its Galaxy Note 7 smartphones, Samsung announced that it will no longer produce or market the smartphones after presumably repaired phones continued to overheat, sometimes resulting in combustion.
While it’s still not fully clear what causes the phone’s problems, one of the main concerns is the compact design of the phone’s battery.
This will be a tough blow to Samsung, as it not only takes away a whole line of products from its offering, but could further impact the company’s reputation in the future.
“It’s difficult to estimate now the damage it has caused Samsung’s mid- and long-term brand value, as well as its impact on Samsung’s smartphone sales in the future,” Lee Seung-woo, an analyst at IBK Investment and Securities, told The New York Times.
