Seattle-based SanMar Corporation, a leading supplier of imprintable apparel and accessories, announced it released an online tool to provide distributors with ready access to General Conformity Certificates (GCC) for SanMar’s private -label products that are in compliance with the new federal law Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008 (CPSIA) enacted in August 2008. The tool is called GCC Search.
The CPSIA sets out new testing and documentation requirements, including a rule that all importers and U.S. manufacturers of products subject to the CPSIA create GCCs for certain products manufactured after Nov. 12, 2008. A GCC lists the federal safety laws that apply to a given product, certifies that the product complies with all such laws and provides information regarding third-party testing.
“We take this new legislation very seriously,” said Melissa Nelson, SanMar general counsel, who is overseeing CPSIA compliance for SanMar. “We conduct regular testing of all products subject to CPSIA that we import, and are fully compliant with the new product safety law. Our ability to make that information available in our GCC Search gives our customers an effective tool to receive vital product safety information,” Nelson concluded.
