After receiving three reports that young children lacerated their mouths while drinking out of reusable stainless steel drinking straws, Seattle-based Starbucks decided to recall them. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) reported that Starbucks sold approximately 2.5 million of the straws in the U.S. and approximately 301,000 in Canada.

The coffeehouse chain sold the straws in sets of three and as components of two sizes of stainless steel beverage cups: Grande 16 oz. cups and Venti 24 oz. cups.

Due to the rigid nature of the straws, CPSC recommended consumers do not allow children to handle or use them.
