Stevenson Appointed to Vernon Company Board of Directors

The Newton, Iowa-based Vernon Company board of directors announced Dan Stevenson, executive vice president, has been appointed to the company’s board and long-term board members and industry veterans, Joe Geneser and Dean Mathews will retire from the board effective July 1, 2009.

Stevenson joined The Vernon Company in 1982, serving in senior finance and administrative management roles until 1999, when he was named executive vice president. He has served on Vernon’s board advisory committee for more than 10 years.

Stevenson is active in community organizations. He is currently the vice president of the Iowa Business Growth Board and has served on the boards of the Iowa Business Development Company, Progress Industries Foundation and US Bank.

Geneser was elected to Vernon Company’s board of directors in 1971, and has served as chair of the compensation committee for 38 years. He enjoyed a 33-year career at Vernon Company, starting in the finance division in 1961 and retiring as president and COO in 1994. Geneser is the only person not of the Vernon family to be appointed president/COO in more than 100 years.

Mathews, a PPAI Hall of Fame member (inducted in 1982) and former president of distributors Brown & Bigelow and Shedd-Brown, Inc., was elected to the Vernon Company board in 1982. He has been the audit committee chair since 1985.
