Custom apparel company Teespring, which is backed by Andreessen Horowitz, Khosla Ventures and more, has made a move to expand internationally by acquiring London-based apparel company Fabrily.
Fabrily performs a similar service as Teespring, allowing customers to design custom T-shirts and create a funding campaign for them. Also like Teespring, Fabrily handles fulfillment and payments.
According to an article by TechCrunch, the terms of the deal were not disclosed, and Teespring’s co-founder and CEO Walker Williams said that the acquisition was not originally planned, and that he did not feel that Fabrily was a direct competitor to his business.
Williams said that Fabrily’s rapid growth in Europe was appealing to him, and that capturing the European market would be good for business. Fabrily’s London staff includes 30 people from 13 countries who speak 16 different languages, and Teespring boasts more than 220 employees in the U.S.
According to the report, the whole Fabrily team is joining Teespring, and some employees may move to the U.S.
Fabrily will continue to operate its own site and services for now, as no decision has been made in terms of each company’s technology platforms and brands.
